"To invent an airplane is nothing. To build one is something. To fly is everything." - Otto Lilienthal
Gliding is the sport of unpowered flight. Like birds of prey, gliders can stay aloft by riding currents of rising air caused by local terrain or by solar thermals. Soaring in this way, gliders can fly hundreds of miles and climb thousands of meters into the air. CUGC exists for all students of Cambridge University. In particular, we give a large number of students their first ever taste of gliding.
With the facilities of Cambridge Gliding Centre (CGC), we have access to a number of 2-seater planes and many experienced instructors who can teach you how to fly. If you're interested, check out our beginner's introduction to gliding - the newbies section has more info and also details of upcoming trial flight days.
As well as flying from our home club at Gransden, the club makes regular trips away to all sorts of places, where you can experience new terrain and new flying conditions, and make progress in obtaining awards. We even indulge in competitive flying against university clubs and others.
