Long Mynd Expedition

18 Mar 2007 - 1:00am25 Mar 2007 - 11:00pm

This Easter, CUGC are going on expedition to the Long Mynd in Shropshire, to fly with the Midland Gliding Club. The Mynd is a 1200 (or so) ft ridge, offering us the potential for ridge flying and maybe even wave - things that are rare to find at home, and the MGC crowd are always friendly!

This trip would be an especially great chance for pre-solo pilots out there to build up lots of flying time and get practice at a new site, with different challenges and opportunities compared to Gransden Lodge; and also for you to meet lots of other keen CUGCers!

We'll be staying in the MGC clubhouse, which is quite comfortable and fully equipped, right down to having its own bar...

The total cost (including reasonable flying fees) shouldn’t be more than £250 – I’m sure you’ll agree this is an excellent price for a week’s holiday, let alone a holiday that includes lots of gliding...

Let me know (mch46) as soon as possible if you’re keen, or if you want more information.

Summer Trial Flight Evenings!

Did you miss out on a chance to go gliding this term? Do you have a group of friends/lab partners/team mates who would like to try gliding too? Then our summer trial flight evenings may be for you! We can run these evenings on Saturdays and Sundays throughout next term, so if you can put together a group of 15-25 people who can get themselves to the airfield (i.e.with your own transport) then we'd love to hear from you. We can organise a BBQ for you and make an evening of it. Email enquiries@cugc.org.uk if you think you may be interested and we'll take it from there.

Pubmeet

The next pub meet will be held on Thursday February 15th from 8pm at the Maypole.

Trial Flights - book now!

Trial flights this term will be on the 19th of Feb, as well as the 2nd and 14th of March.

The online booking system is now open (9th of February 2007), so get ready to book before all the places get snapped up.

Check out our trialflight site here !

Update (20/02/07): All trial flight spaces have now been filled. You may join our reserve list, but otherwise please check back next term. To go on the trial flight email list so that you hear about trial flight days as soon as they are open for bookings, please email enquiries@cugc.org.uk and request to be added.

New Website Live

After one week of work with Drupal, Gallery and a few plugins, this new website is finally live. The nice thing about it is, that it allows all committee members to edit the site. Every member can edit the content, fix spelling or grammar and add new content. We highly recommend this flexible system. It is easy to work with and it has a reputation to be a save Content Management System. Enjoy browsing the new pages. Bye for now.

15th February - Pubmeet

Following our successful first pubmeet on Thursday we decided to hold one every two weeks. The next is therefore tentatively scheduled for Thursday 15th February. Time and place to be confirmed later. I also wanted to thank everyone who volunteered to put up posters -- I think we managed to cover all 31 colleges and several departments too.

SQUASH: 8th Feb 2007

Title says it all really.. It's in the Gardner Room at Emmanuel College, starting from 7.30. Free wine + nibbles, lots of fun gliding videos and pictures, a short talk from an instructor and some tails from a CUGC veteran. Plus of course plenty of keen CUGC types to quiz. This is an ideal opportunity to find out more about gliding, meet people in the club and to sign up for trial flights.

Pub pub pub

If you can't make it to the squash, or even if you can but want to get to know as all even better - the first CUGC pubmeet of the year will be held on Thursday February 1st. We'll be meeting at the Maypole from 8pm onwards. Hope to see lots of new faces - don't be scared (we're not scary, honest..)

CU Rigging Notes

Kate wrote some (de)rigging notes to point people in the right direction when rigging and de-rigging her. Please do not attempt to rig or de-rig CU unless you have been given the green light by SomeoneImportant(tm) and are 100% confident you know what you are doing!
