Sutton Bank Diaries

As you no doubt know, we're on expedition to Sutton Bank - very exciting! We're looking forward to reaching lots of lovely wave and hopefully some ridge lift, and the forecast looks good... You can keep up with our exploits on my blog (I'll not clog up the front page this time ;-) )

End of term SOCIAL!!

Hello everyone

Our social next Tuesday 27th Nov will be skating on Parker's Piece followed by a meal (restaurant to be confirmed).

Please let me know if you are interested - all welcome - by Sunday evening, so I can book the skating and table on monday.

 Hope to see you there

Becca (rw339)

Events for Michaelmas

Hello everyone!

I have now entered all the events for this term into the calendar, hope to see you at one soon. Some dates for your diaries; formal at St Catharine's College Friday 9th November (I need names by Sunday 4th Nov), giant formal at Lucy Cavendish College Thursday 22nd Nov (I need names by Thus 15th) and our end of term do will be on Tuesday 27th Nov. Any ideas for what you'd like to do just let me know.

I'm intending to postpone the stash order until we have done our trial flight days, but will definitely have it ready for the expedition at the end of term.

Happy Flying! Becca (rw339)

Socials and stash

Hello again

Just to let you know I'm putting up our events plan for the next term. Apologies for the short notice but the 1st pub meet is TOMORROW 8pm at The Anchor.

The other events will go onto the calendar shortly. One important deadline is to contact me by this friday 26th if you want to join us for the fireworks at Gransden Friday 2nd Nov - so we can sort food and transport.

Stash (clothing with our sexy CUGC logo on) will be ordered at the beginning of november, anyone not on the email list should contact me (rw339) for a price list.

That's all folks

Becca

Winter Expedition

1 Dec 2007 - 12:00am9 Dec 2007 - 12:00am

As always, this term will have one of our regular expeditions, this to Sutton Bank in Yorkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for everyone in the club to try something a bit different as there's a good chance of hill lift and wave (which is lacking at Gransden!). We'll also be taking an instructor or two so if you need it there'll be plenty of instructing capacity for you to do some intensive training - especially useful for pre-solo pilots!

If you're interested and want to come along (or ask me for more info) then email me at mch46, or check out the Yorkshire Gliding Club website at www.ygc.co.uk.

I look forward to hearing from you all :-)

Formal - change of venue

Unfortunately we have had to change the location of Formal Hall this friday to Fitzwilliam college instead of St Catharine's. Fortunately that gives you 24hrs extra to sign up for the last few places (until 8pm tuesday). Just get in contact with me for more details.

Trial Flight booking now open!

I am pleased to announce that our online trial flight booking system is now up and running! Our trial flight dates are:

Friday 26th October
Friday 2nd November
Friday 9th November

To book: click on ‘Trialflights’ across the top, read the information on that page, and then click on ‘Trialflight database system’ in the text to proceed to the booking page.

We will transport you from Cambridge (specifically, the Sidgwick Site), to the airfield and back again. You should be away from Cambridge for around 3 hours. We are taking groups to the airfield every hour and a half throughout these days, as you’ll see. Trial flights cost £18 but if you have two flights on the day the second one is reduced to £14. And if you decide to join as a member on the day then the cost of each of your flights will be reduced to £10. If you have any further questions, do contact me.

New Member's Formal

19 Oct 2007 - 7:30pm19 Oct 2007 - 10:30pm

Hello CUGC!!

We are having a New-Member's Formal swap at St Catherine's College on Friday 19th October. This should be an excellent oppotunity for us to get to know each other a little better as a club, I especially would like to meet those who have joined us over the summer and at the start of this term. Let's start the year's social calendar in style!

Price will be around £10, bring your own wine, formal dress

Places are limited so get in touch quickly. Apologies for the short notice, but the deadline for booking is THIS SUNDAY 14th Oct. To book email (or phone) myself (rw339) with your name, college, number of tickets required (1 or 2) and any dietary requirements.

Hope to see you there, happy flying until then!

Reduced winch launch charges

Welcome back. I hope you've had a good summer and are keen to get back in the air. Because many of you are training to go solo or to get your Bronze the CUGC committee has decided to subsidise member's winch launch fees for the rest of this term. We will pay £1 towards every winch launch bringing the price down to just £4.95. This will be automatically reflected in your account so there is no need for you to do anything.

Please make the best use of this opportunity. I hope to see you at the airfield sometime soon.
